Spine surgery done the “classic” way is traditionally done with an open approach, meaning that the surgical area being operated on is opened with a long incision to allow full view and access to the anatomy by the surgeon. In the past recent years, there have been advances in technology that have allowed spinal conditions to be treated with the minimally invasive spinal surgery (MISS) approach.Dr. Brusovanik Helps CBS4's Eliott Rodriguez Without Surgery 2

Adult scoliosis or bending and curving of the spine, happens frequently. With time disks become shorter. Sometimes we notice this change as our grandparents age and lose height. For more information call us at 305.587.2611

My name is Stuart Brandon. I met Dr. Brusovanik after I had gone to University of Miami and saw Dr. Eismont who is the head of the department and I went to Hollywood Memorial and right now I cannot think of the name of the doctor, but he was also the head of the department and neither one would do the surgery on my back. I had a prior surgery that was successful, but it was seven years prior and both of them thought that it was too dangerous to do work on my back. We met Dr. Brusovanik and initially he gave me his cell phone number. He said you will have questions call me, text me, anything you want to know, and we got pretty comfortable with him pretty quickly. In any case, he is somebody who tries to do minimally invasive surgery. Unfortunately, that was not a possibility for me. We tried to do that. We tried to go in through the side, but he wound up having to turn me over and had to take out all the old equipment and we did six discs and it was a long arduous surgery. Bottom line is a day or two later, when you get up, they usually give you a walker to try to walk around, very important. He was my walker. He held his arms out and I held him. He walked backwards and I held on to him and we walked around the hospital floor. Next day, he came and we did it again. I never can imagine any other doctor doing that with somebody. I have been so comfortable with a human being or a doctor as I am with him. Before, he did this surgery, if I went out to dinner and I could not get a seat at the bar or if we had to wait for the dinner, I would have to leave because I could not stand. Now I stand in the bar for half hour, I walk a mile or two, no problem. I do physical therapy. He actually gave me my life back. I mean I was not dying, but I really did not have a life nor did my wife. So, I will be forever grateful to the man. He is not only a brilliant surgeon. He is a wonder warmhearted human being and I am very proud to know him and proud to be here today.
